The ACTJCL 2002 Girls' Allegro Championship
7 April 2002
Today was the Domino's ACT Girls Championships. (Many thanks to Domino's for sponsoring
lunch and to Hoyts for movie ticket prizes!) It is run at 15 min per side, as most of
the players tend to be inexperienced primary school girls with a sprinkling of older
players. Last year there was only 1 girl over 12. This year we managed 4.
Shannon Oliver was the favourite by a massive amount, but as fast chess is not a
strength for her, a number of upsets was expected. However Shannon was in form and
managed to easily win all her games.
The older girls all played well, with under 12's, Gaya Sakthivel, Katie Logan and
Kayleigh Smith performing strongly as well.
