2002 ACT JUNIOR LIGHTNING CHAMPIONSHIPS was played 25 August 2002. Congratulations to the winner ... ANDREW FITZPATRICK Sunday saw another gigantic turnout for the Junior Chess League, with 86 children playing across the two tournaments. We had around 100 children registered, but had the usual set of sick children/ no shows, which brought it down to a managable 86. Our main problem was physically registering and taking the money. Once we got that out the way, the rounds went very smoothly. We were hoping for 11 rounds, but with the long registration period, we had to cut it down to 9, rather than keep parents waiting at the end. Thank-you to Libby Smith and her very powerful voice, for keeping the kids moving along, to Mirabelle Guo and Shun Ikeda for all the help with registration, score-taking, ribbon writing and packing up. Also to all the other parents who helped pack up, such as Tony Fitzpatrick and to unknown parents who sold lollies all afternoon. Finally (and not least) to St Thomas and Principal Peter Hughes for all their help and support.
